The Short Skyvan, often referred to as the 'Flying Shoebox' due to its distinctive boxy shape, is a high-wing, twin-turboprop short takeoff and landing (STOL) utility aircraft. Manufactured by Short Brothers, it first took to the skies in the 1960s and quickly became known for its robustness and exceptional performance in challenging conditions. With a capacity to carry up to 19 passengers or a considerable cargo load, the Skyvan has been a favorite among civilian operators for its versatility. Its ability to operate from unprepared airstrips made it an invaluable asset in remote areas, serving humanitarian, cargo, and even skydiving roles across the globe. The Skyvan's unique combination of rugged design, STOL capabilities, and spacious cargo hold has ensured its continued operation in various corners of the world, long after production ceased in 1986.
