The Sikorsky X-2 is a high-speed compound helicopter with coaxial rotors, developed by the American aerospace company Sikorsky Aircraft. Making its first flight in 2008, the X-2 was designed to demonstrate that a helicopter could cruise at 250 knots (460 km/h; 290 mph), a speed significantly higher than conventional helicopters. The X-2 features cutting-edge technology including fly-by-wire flight controls, active vibration control, and an integrated auxiliary propulsion system. It set an unofficial helicopter speed record in 2010, reaching speeds of 287 knots (531 km/h; 330 mph) in level flight. The X-2's achievements have paved the way for the development of the Sikorsky S-97 Raider and the future Defiant X, highlighting its role as a key innovator in high-speed rotary-wing flight. This aircraft not only pushed the boundaries of helicopter speed but also demonstrated advancements in agility and maneuverability.
