The PZL I-22 Iryda, a jet of undeniable ambition, soared as Poland's bold foray into advanced jet trainer and light attack aircraft design during the late 20th century. Conceived to modernize the Polish Air Force, the Iryda program aimed to replace older trainers with a state-of-the-art, multirole aircraft. Despite its turbulent development journey from the 1980s through the 1990s, the I-22 Iryda showcased Poland's aerospace capabilities. It featured a tandem-seat configuration, was powered by twin turbofan engines, and was equipped for both training and light combat roles. Operational use was limited and fraught with challenges, leading to its premature retirement.
