The Boeing B-47 Stratojet, a long-range, six-engined, jet-powered strategic bomber, was a major innovation in post-World War II combat jet design. Operational from 1951 to 1977, it was primarily used by the United States Air Force (USAF) in the 1950s and 1960s. The B-47's mission was to fly at high speed and altitude to evade enemy interceptor aircraft. The innovation of the swept wing, engines carried in pods under the wings, and aerodynamic cleanliness, made the B-47 a standout aircraft of its time. It was also the first jet bomber to carry nuclear weapons internally.
