The F-111 Aardvark, a supersonic, medium-range interdictor and tactical attack aircraft, was developed by General Dynamics in the 1960s. It was operational from 1967 to 1998. The Aardvark was known for its variable-sweep wings, which allowed for excellent aerodynamic efficiency across a wide range of speeds. It was widely used by the United States Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force. The F-111 was also one of the first aircraft to have an automated terrain-following radar, which gave it a unique ground-hugging flight capability. Nicknamed 'Aardvark', it was a key player in several military operations including the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm.
