The Republic F-105 Thunderchief, affectionately known as the 'Thud', was a supersonic fighter-bomber used by the United States Air Force. The Mach 2 capable F-105 conducted the majority of strike bombing missions during the early years of the Vietnam War. Operational from 1958 to 1984, it was the only American aircraft to have been designed specifically to deliver nuclear weapons at supersonic speed. Despite its large size, the F-105 proved versatile and was used extensively in a ground-attack role. Its five hardpoints enabled it to carry a variety of bombs and missiles. The F-105 was also the first to receive the 'Wild Weasel' anti-radar missile system in its F-105F and G models. A true warrior of the skies!
