The Sikorsky CH-54 Skycrane is an American twin-engine heavy-lift helicopter designed by Sikorsky Aircraft for the United States Army. It was primarily used for the transport of heavy equipment and supplies during the Vietnam War. The CH-54, with its distinctive silhouette and powerful lifting capabilities, became an iconic figure in aerial logistics, capable of lifting cargo that was previously thought impossible to move by air. Operational from the 1960s through the 1990s, the Skycrane could carry loads attached to its underside by cables, including vehicles, artillery, and even other helicopters. Its unique design, featuring a slender fuselage and a cockpit sitting atop a massive frame, allowed for unparalleled visibility and control during cargo operations. The CH-54 has been affectionately nicknamed the 'Flying Crane' due to its exceptional lifting power and has been a vital asset in both military and civilian heavy-lift operations around the globe.
